As you probably know, there are a plethora of free WordPress themes available. However, cheap is cheap, and if you want a website that will stand out from the crowd, you should take a look at the offerings of a theme shop. For under a hundred bucks you can grab a theme of the utmost quality. If you’re serious about your online presence, it’s a no-brainer.
The only snag is that the amount of choice can make the process of picking a theme a little confusing for the newcomer. Luckily for you, ResWPThemes has formulated a list of the best WordPress theme shops. A theme from any of the shops listed below will be coded to a high standard, updated often, supported, and more.
The themes are easy to use, even for beginners, and there is a support forum with dedicated staff to help answer questions. Elegant Themes offer one of the most competitively priced theme membership packages around – you can get access to all 83 of their themes for just $39 a year. Read our Elegant Themes review.
ThemeForest is the biggest and best-known theme marketplace. Sometimes you will run into an issue with a theme, but usually the theme author will be able to help, either privately or via a support forum. If you stick to themes with good ratings (3.5+), you can’t go wrong. We’ve bought several themes from ThemeForest, and can only speak of positive experiences.
StudioPress boost a great range of themes – there truly is a StudioPress for everyone. StudioPress themes run on the Genesis framework, which is widely acknowledged to be the industry standard of WordPress theme frameworks. Why? Its SEO options are everything you could want, it’s cleanly coded and it’s secure as they come. It also makes it easy to create child themes, which are the proper way of making theme customisations. So impressed have we been with StudioPress that we went and bought the Pro Plus All-Theme package, which gives us access to all of their themes on a permanent basis, future theme releases and updates included. We are very happy with our purchase; StudioPress is always our first port of call when we need a new theme.
WPZoom stock a large range of well coded themes and the support is top class. Their themes are suitable for a variety of types of website, so the chances are your need are going to be met by one of them, at least. In common with a number of the other shops on this list, they provide a few free themes, too.
ThemeFuse can’t compete with some of the other theme shops on this list when it comes to quantity, but when it comes to quality, ThemeFuse is right up there. Every one of its 18 themes is carefully designed and. Its themes can be bought individually at $49 a pop, which is reasonable, or you can get access to the whole lot for $199 + $17 a month.
Templatic offer a generous range of themes, from hotel bookings to car portals, including a small number of free ones. Like a few of the shops in this list, the themes are categorised so that you can quickly find the theme that will meet your requirements. There is the option to have access to all Templatic’s themes for $299.
Mojo Themes, similarly to ThemeForest, offer a huge range of themes, with prices starting at the lower end of the scale. Such is the scale of choice you will be sure to find something that fits the bill. A quick note of warning: the cheapest themes are likely child themes that will only work as part of a framework, or under construction themes.
ResWPThemes runs on a theme by MyThemeShop. This means we rate it highly. The themes look good, load quickly, and offer decent customisation options via the theme options panel. The support is excellent. The staff will even help you with more complex customisations for free if you ask nicely.
Every single one of Themify’s themes is responsive, which gets a big thumbs up from us here at ResWPThemes. The Pinterest-inspired theme pictured above, Pinboard, is one of the theme shops most popular themes. Other popular choices include Metro (inspired by Microsoft’s Metro interface – see our collection of the best Metro-style WordPress themes) and Bold.
ColorLabs’ themes are some of the most beautiful on the market today. The support they provide is great, too. Definitely worth a look if you’re after an SEO friendly, highly customisable theme with a striking design. And let’s face it, who isn’t?
