The Trim theme is just one of 81 themes you get access to if you join Elegant Themes, one of the most successful theme outfits in the business. That’s 81 themes for $39. Or $0.49 a theme. When it comes to price, that’s not too shabby!
Not to be left behind the times, Elegant Themes created Trim, a fully responsive theme with a clean aesthetic. Like all the responsive themes we feature, Trim will display nicely on mobiles and tablets as well as more traditional desktop screens.
Other theme shops (I’m looking at you, ThemeForest) commonly charge significantly more than $39 for a single theme, which makes Elegant Theme’s pricing hard to ignore.
The home page features a responsive slider that is capable of displaying video in addition to images:
There’s also room for recent work and recent posts widgets.
There are a few portfolio options: portfolio small, medium and large. The sizes refer to the size of the preview images. Hover over an image and you’ll be presented with two options: click through to the post or open up a larger version of the image in a lightbox. There are fancier portfolios out there, but this one is more than adequate.
There are a couple of other portfolio options worth mentioning: portfolio no text and portfolio with sidebar. Portfolio with no text is an especially useful one: sometimes you just want to display image, nothing else. I can’t see the portfolio with sidebar option seeing much action, as a sidebar would inevitably distract from the portfolio, but you never know.
I’m impressed by the size of Elegant’s shortcode collection. To re-cap, shortcodes enable you to use snippets of code without actually knowing any coding. How? Say you wanted to insert a button. Without shortcodes, you’d have to write the code for your button from scratch, or even hire a web designer to do so for you. I suppose you could download a free button pack, but even then you’d have to style the button to match your theme, and add the code to your stylesheet as well as insert the correct HTML into your post. No, shortcodes make things like inserting buttons much easier. As easy as typing in [box] when you want to place your content in a content box, for example.
There are sixteen shortcodes in all. I recommend you check them out from within the live demo.
Trim’s colour control panel allows you to easily control background page colours, background page textures, as well as header and body fonts.
